"Twenty Four Seven" Teaser Trailer Hits the Net!

So finally, finally, finally, we have something for you to look at. It's a quick teaser trailer for the film that I've been working on now for over a complete year (5 years if you count the first draft written for it).

I might have plans to release another full length trailer in the future. The film is going to be completely finished by March, almost an exact year from the time principal photography started. So enjoy the teaser!

Whack to the Future

Last year I took a break from directing and jumped into the Cinematographers chair instead. I was the Director of Photography on a short film entitled "Whack to the Future". I was really happy with the look of the final film. I used a few techniques that normally weren't used in film school like using Pola filters in place of ND. I also used a raised single light technique for the bar scene trying to mimic a Godfather look. The point was to under light and make it subtle, so you didn't feel overwhelmed by the background yet you could still tell it was there. Check it out below it's pretty funny!

New Job, New Place, New Blogs

So I haven't been blogging as much as I like about my current films and what's going on with me in general. So let me first say that 247 is turning out better and better with each editing session. Currently the picture is "locked" meaning it's currently in its final cut, the one everyone will see. My composers and sound guys are starting work on all the complicated sound effects that accompany the film.

We had the first screening of it without proper sound mix to the crew and it was extremely well received. So well received in fact we were encouraged to enter it to the CSC. I'm not exactly sure what that entails but from what I've been told it's a very good thing. My producer will also be shopping it to as many film festivals as we can get.

Okay so now that that is out of the way on with life. I'm moving to Toronto tomorrow as I'm getting prepared to start my position at CTV in the Digital Media sector. What does that entail you ask? I'm not 100% sure myself but I'll be dealing it a lot of digital streaming, video on demand, and web based stuff for shows on CTV, TSN, MTV, Discovery and so forth. It's a cool job because I get to actually work with everyone at the complex, not just a specific area.

I think I'm going to start blogging more regularly as I think I'll have some more time. That's all for now though. I'll let you guys know as soon as the film is 100% finished and ready for festivals and your eyes!

DVD Work for Sale

As some of you know I own a graphic design firm. We were recently commissioned to designed the entire packaging for the Global TV series "Along for the Ride". It's now available for purchase here for anyone interested. There is also a nice high res version of the front cover.

Top Movies of 2006

Well the year is almost over and I thought I'd just share my thoughts about what is worth seeing this year. I was lucky enough to get out a lot this year to the movies, I barley went out the year before... but maybe because for the most part 2005 didn't have any movies worth seeing.

Best of 2006

1. The Departed
Scorsese is back and man does he deserve the fucking Oscar this year. If he doesn't get it something is up, pay this man his dues already Hollywood.

2. Borat
Easily the funniest movie this year, and perhaps at least the decade. As all my friends know I've been pushing Borat for years now on "Da Ali G Show", and I'm glad he finally hit mainstream. (But is that a good thing) You know it's going to be good when critics agrued if it was the funniest movie of all time, not if it was just funny.

3. Bobby

At times a little to star heavy this biopic of Robert F. Kenndy was superb nevertheless. A very low key movie release wise, it didn't get many theatres. Rent it on DVD if you get the chance.

4. Apocalypto
I don't care what the hell Mel Gibson said, thinks or does. He's one of the most talented film makers out there. I came for the Braveheart, I stayed for Apoco.

5. The Prestiege
Nolan can't seem to make a bad film. No matter what he is doing he just has a solid foundation of what film theory is and makes entertaining stories. Great story, great characters and Scarlett Johansson in various pushup corsets. Yes please.

An honorable mention goes out to The Fountain. Now... it's cheating. I haven't actually seen the fountain, mostly because it didn't show in a theatre within a 100 mile radius from where I live unfortunatly. I'm pretty certain if I did catch this film it would have been up there somewhere. Number 1.. Number 6? I don't know but I'm checking it out as soon as I can.

Butter Wins Best Commerical!

My good film school buddy Dean who works with me pretty much on all my projects (was my 1st AD on Twenty Four Seven and co-editor on Brokeback Fight Club) picked up his own award for Best Commerical at the Grafiti's too. I was Art Director on his shoot so I had fun sculpting butter all day. Congrats Bro!

The Kindness Of Wins Best Film!

It's been a while since I made a post I've been busy with a lot of things. The 2006 Grafiti awards were held a few weeks ago at Niagara College, and let me first say that they were great. I was up for a few awards, one of them was for best 3 minute film entitled The Kindness Of. I'd like to thank all the crew and actors involved helping me make it

My 7 minute color film entitled "Low Resolution" also picked up Best Cinematogrhpy and Best Editing.

Behind the Scenes: Part 2

The car chase day was a fun day to shoot. We had borrowed a police training camera mount and modified it to fit the 16mm motion picture camera. The only down side to the day was everyone on the crew, including me, got really bad sun burns on the face.

The shots turned out awesome, can't wait to start showing them soon!
